Tell the Legislature to Enact Ethics and Anti-Corruption Reforms Now
Did you know that it's not a crime if a government official doesn't tell the public he has a financial stake in a vote or other official action he or she is taking? And did you know the Florida Commission on Ethics, the agency charged with enforcing state ethics laws, can't investigate possible misconduct until a citizen files a sworn complaint?
Despite the scandals that have plagued Florida from the Panhandle to Miami for the last several years, legislators failed to pass bills during the 2010 session that would have enacted these and many other much-needed ethics and anti-corruption reforms.
