Tell the Legislature to Enact Ethics and Anti-Corruption Reforms Now

Did you know that it's not a crime if a government official doesn't tell the public he has a financial stake in a vote or other official action he or she is taking? And did you know the Florida Commission on Ethics, the agency charged with enforcing state ethics laws, can't investigate possible misconduct until a citizen files a sworn complaint?

Despite the scandals that have plagued Florida from the Panhandle to Miami for the last several years, legislators failed to pass bills during the 2010 session that would have enacted these and many other much-needed ethics and anti-corruption reforms.

Join other Floridians in demanding that the legislature pass tough new ethics and anti-corruption laws.

The Petition

Florida Legislators:

The undersigned Floridians demand tougher ethics and anti-corruption laws.

After the scandals that have rocked the state for the last two years, it is inexcusable that you ended the 2010 legislative session and went home without addressing this issue. The next time you are in Tallahassee -- whether for a special session or the 2011 regular session -- get the job done!

We deserve to know that our public officials are acting with integrity in the people's best interest. And when they're not, we want them to be investigated and punished.

We want to see tougher criminal and civil penalties, more tools for prosecutors to go after offenders, and investigative authority for the Commission on Ethics.

Thank you for your efforts to clean up Florida government.
