Tell the Legislature: No Drilling Off Florida's Coasts!

For the last two years, a secretive coalition funded by the oil industry has hired dozens of powerful lobbyists to push the legislature to allow new drilling for oil and natural gas 3 to 10 miles off the Florida coast.

Rep. Dean Cannon (R-Winter Park), slated to be the next House Speaker, and Sen. Mike Haridopolos (R-Melbourne), the next Senate President, have been the leading proponents of the drilling legislation. Even after the BP Deepwater Horizon disaster, they have refused to abandon their plans.

Join thousands of Floridians in demanding that the Legislature say NO to drilling off Florida's coasts.

Senate President Jeff Atwater
Speaker of the House Larry Cretul
Incoming Senate President Mike Haridopolos
Speaker Designate Dean Cannon
Members of the House and Senate:

The undersigned Floridians demand that you drop your proposal to allow new drilling in state waters and focus instead on making Florida a leader in renewable energy research. The Deepwater Horizon oil disaster in the Gulf of Mexico has dramatically highlighted the risks of new drilling near Florida's coasts. The risks to Florida's economy and environment are just too great.

Drilling off Florida's coasts will do nothing to alleviate our economic crisis or improve our access to energy resources. It will merely endanger our precious natural resources and our vital tourism industry.

The oil and natural gas industry has hired dozens of prominent lobbyists to push this misguided proposal. Who are you going to listen to? The lobbyists...or the people of Florida? We'll be watching to find out.
