Is Florida providing "high-quality" schools, as the Constitution requires?

Yesterday, a coalition of parents and citizens groups filed a lawsuit in Tallahassee asking the court to declare that state leaders have failed to meet their constitutional obligation to make "adequate provision" for a "uniform, efficient, safe, secure and high quality system of free public schools that allows students to obtain a high quality education."

Florida does not provide quality education

Florida Public School funding is dead last in the U.S. State Legislators have consistently decreased funding to Public Schools for over a decade and syphoned off millions of the public tax dollars to fund private schools through vouchers. This year the House and Senate  passed a bill increasing the voucher funds to private schools while making deep cuts in the Public School Budget. Florida's FTE is among the lowest in the Nation. Shame on them!

Florida teachers have been able to make inroads despite the lack of support from the majority of State  Legislators. According to  recent studies, the improvement of Florida's Public School students' math and reading scores were cited   and/or at the top nationally.

The Florida  Legislature doesn't credit the professionals, but attempts to discourage and discredit their efforts by ignoring them when making decisions that impact their jobs, their lives, and their teaching and learning methods. It is a total lack of respect on the part of those who lack professional experience in instructional strategies  to assume they have the answers about how to teach, learn, and test when they pass bills that ignore input from qualified and certified educators. What arrogance!

civics classes for middle school

I would suggest that our legislators and governor need to take this class.  They obviously do not know the first thing about the constitution.  A class on ethics, honesty, and basic English would be a good thing , too.  For example, the pay cut for employees that is called a contribution to their pensions, when it is not a contribution and will actually lower the pensions people will receive because it will lower their pay.  In fact, almost every bill this legislature has passed does the opposite of it's name.
