State of the State Address Sets Centrist, Bi-Partisan Tone
Mar 7, 2007
Governor Charlie Crist’s speech yesterday heralded a new era in Tallahassee. He reiterated his pledge that his administration would be the most open and accessible in the state’s history, and he called for state leaders to “work together not as Republicans or Democrats, but as Floridians.” Democrats praised the speech for touching on themes like global warming, children’s issues and a voting paper trail. But more conservative issues were in evidence as well, as Crist insisted that the legislature must pass property tax reductions that are comprehensive and immediate.
