Governor and Small Group of Legislators Work to Save PIP

Sep 13, 2007

Governor Crist held a "pow-wow" in his office yesterday, bringing together dozens of stakeholders in the industries affected by PIP in the hopes of finding a consensus. No solution emerged, but a small group of lawmakers who are working to save PIP were encouraged.

A bi-partisan group of House members have begun counting votes in support of a one-year extension of PIP. The Governor has said he is willing to call a special session if there is a consensus, and the lawmakers hope to show him they have a majority of votes in spite of the reluctance of legislative leadership to address the issue.

St. Petersburg Times: The St. Petersburg Times offered a full report of the behind-the-scenes maneuvering.
