Florida LAKEWATCH Seeks Volunteers

Mar 18, 2008

Florida LAKEWATCH is a state-sponsored program administered by the University of Florida that trains citizen volunteers to help manage lakes through monthly water monitoring. It is one of the largest such programs in the country with more than 1800 trained volunteers monitoring 600 lakes in 40 countries.

Volunteers are trained to collect water and algae samples and water clarity information to document a lake's nutrient levels. In exchange for their commitment to monitor their lake once per month, volunteers receive training and all necessary supplies, a newsletter, periodic reports of the data they collect, including an annual report on their lake, access to aquatic-science experts at UF, and invitations to LAKEWATCH events.
