Legislators Not Likely to Address KidCare During Special Session

Jun 13, 2007

Despite calls from nearly two dozen organizations, including CIVIC Concern, the legislature has declined to address KidCare during the special session. KidCare provides health coverage to children in working families who make too much to be eligible for Medicaid but not enough to afford private insurance. It is funded by state dollars, matching federal funds, and premium payments from the covered families.

Senate President Ken Pruitt announced he had not even considered taking up legislation to fix the program. As a result, Florida stands to lose millions in matching federal funds.
