National Study by Johns Hopkins Team Lists Florida Among Worst States In Dropout Crisis
A team of researchers at Johns Hopkins University has released the results of a nationwide study on high school dropout rates, finding that Florida is in a category of only five states where dropout rates are so high and widespread that the issue is a statewide crisis. The researchers suggest "a substantial federal role" in these states.
Along with various recommendations for reform, the report urged the federal government to target funding and assistance to Florida because it is "too big to fail," arguing that such high dropout rates in a state as large as Florida negatively impacts the whole nation.
